Yes, a whatever o-ring could work, but you'll probably have to replace it every time you pull the balance tube. They are exposed to oil, heat and exhaust byproducts. You're also paying for the convenience of someone having done the work for you. If you want to make your own EGR block plates, by all means go for it. The purchasable ones are there for people that don't want to go through the trouble to fab their own or don't have the tools/skill to. If you still can't afford it, sell the Z, buy a honda.
